Battlefield Vietnam
A (mostly) first person combat game, with vehicles, helicopters and planes and a bodacious co-op multi-play
Rating:
So you've played quake huh? Let me just jump right in and say that the thing i really like about Battlefield Vietnam is the game-play diversity. If you get sick of running around on the ground then you go jump in an APC, if you get sick of that there's helicopters, boats, planes and cannons to go play with, each with it's own particular strength or weakness. You can choose different roles too, if you want to be able to repair vehicles, then you'd choose to be an 'engineer' or if you want the raw power of an M16 at your disposal then you'd choose to be an assault marine. One nice touch is that you run at different speeds depending on how heavy your 'kit' is. I mostly play Battlefield Vietnam with a friend of mine (Hi Stu!) in co-operative combat mode. this gives us an army of intelligent computer bad guys (bots) that you and your mates can fight. We allocate some computer controlled players to our team too (friendly bots). | Favourite maps: | 1) Operation Irving | | | 2) The Fall of Lang Vei | Many people play this game over the internet and you can build quite large armies of players. I have heard of 100's of players being logged into maps on the Battlefield Vietnam server. Be careful if you do play online though, human players can be a lot more devious to play against that computer controlled players! We patched different music into the Battlefield Vietnam game, this lets us choose which music will be played when you are in vehicles. We found that funny music can create bizarre levels of surrealism - try it out, our current favourite song to have playing in the vehicles is Tone Loc's "Funky Cold Medina" Click here to view our guide to custom music in Battlefield Vietnam, It's a handy BFV Music tools How-to that will get you started to enjoying your own music in the game. We've had some incredible disasters with 'friendly fire' and occasionally someone will turn on someone else but other than that the games are usually fairly gentlemanly! Battlefield Vietnam uses an extraordinary amount of CPU power, RAM and Video processing. To run the game you really need a DirectX9 card and at least 2ghz processor at the minimum. News on the wire is that EAGames have just released Battlefield 2 Modern Combat for the PlayStation 2 and we'll let you know what we think of it just as soon as we have bought a copy!

Robert Laurie () Anyone seen an Activision CrimeWave CD floating around. I need a copy for my GameGun!? | Stu! (Tuesday, 12 April 2005) A great game. Truly awesome. A nice diversity of strengths and weakness amongst the various roles and equipment, sufficient ground and tree cover to give the feeling of being in a jungle, and music being played out of human vehicles give this game an awesome level of interactivity.
Its not every day you drop an APC on a group of enemy, as a bomb....
Whilst scaring the crap out of them with "The Peter Gunn Theme"... | Robert Laurie (Sunday, 6 November 2005) Hey check out the Dice City mod for Battlefield Vietnam (they're working on a version for Battlefield 2)
